I think it's worth a try. I like to think that we could manage to police ourselves and keep things on topic here. I know it's a calculated risk, but it would keep things flowing more here.
Has there been a problem in the past?

I have to agree. I am hesitant to answer a question which has been asked because I suspect others have already answered it and just haven't had the response posted yet.
I am a big fan of imposing rules only when there is a demonstrated need for them. Open things up until it becomes obvious that the openness is causing problems.
If not the postings, then at the very least the comments should be freed up.

I think so, too. Moderating all the responses is heck a lot of work to do, virtually no one should burden this onto himself if there is no (proven) need to do so.
Perhaps one could add a sentence or two about every poster is responsibly for what he says but system operators keep the right to change offending notes at any time...

I have to chime in and join the chorus. I agree. I believe it'd be relatively low-risk too: one could always yank the status if it's abused.
