Squishdot Message Board?
Squishdot Posted by on Monday October 18, 02:19AM, 1999
from the features-request-central dept.
Wondering if it's possible to implement a central message board, that stands on its own, and also integrates comments and messages from the other currently active articles...

Squishdot - dig it!

One 'feature' I was wondering about how difficult it would be to implement:

Besides the comments ability with each article, is it possible to also create a separate message board, with independent discussions, but also having the article comments linked to it.

That way, you could offer one central message board for all kinds of discussion and commentaries, and have the article comments integrated (for those people that prefer a central discussion resource)

Is this doable?

I'm sure doing it is possible. Actually doing it is another story. I'm doing a kinda similar project myself with PHP. I've considered doing a separate board, but right now I've just been trying to concentrate on the main site.

This might be easier to do in the future. I'm revising the architecture of Squishdot to use ZCatalog/ZCatalog-aware objects -- this will allow you to index your articles and comments in a more flexible way and make it possible to do what you have in mind.
If you're thinking of just discussion groups, however; Confera might fit better for your needs -- watch out for new developments on this product.

Isn't Confera a component of Squishdot?

Squishdot is derived from Confera -- meaning I studied and copied and modified the code from it to build Squishdot. So in one sense -- it is; but if you're thinking you can plug it into Squishdot -- well, you can, but they're still pretty much separate products -- for example you can't search one and find articles/replies from the other...
