How do I transport my zope and squishdot from one drive to another

Running on 2000 prof, would like to run on XP

Hi,
I have my hard drive partitioned into 2. I have Windows 2000 proffesion installed on the first partition. There I am running zope and squishdot. I would like to install zope on my second partition which is running Windows XP, and transport my quishdot site to that install. Does anyone know how to move an istallation, without redoing the whole thing? Thanks in advance.

Brandon

    Move the Data.fs, luke ;-)

Basically, install and setup Zope on your new partition and make sure it's up and running happilly. (make sure you install Squishdot ;-)

Then, shut down both you old and new Zope installs.

Copy the Data.fs file from the /var of your old Zope install and use it to replace the Data.fs of your new Zope install.

Finally, start your new Zope server up again and everything should be running happily :-)

    cheers,

    Chris

Hi, my current Zope 2.2.5 is running in Unix (SUN os). I'd like to test it before upgrading to Zope 2.4.3. Can I copy my Data.fs to windows and test it over there? My question is: is Unix Data.fs working fine in Windows environment? Thanks.

I am sure there are better methods, so this may seem a bit of a cludge, but it works with win2k and winNT4. I run zope from start.bat, not as service.
Assess the exiting zope and list all required Products and external methods or scripts.
If not bothered about 'undo' then compact the database from control panel.
Stop zope and back up everything.
Install new zope on other os, and run once to check installation. Use same superuser. Also install python installation and win32all extentions if required, and add them to path.
The main diff from the old and new installations will be seen in root zope.cgi which has pathing, start.bat and in /var.
Stop the new installation and backup /its /var. Use a tar or zip with pathing switched on.
Copy /var and contents from old to new. This will bring and log files (which can be emptied) with index if it exists.
Run start.bat with -D option to show debug. This will reveal any start up errors and entries the new installation cannot find.
Enter new site as manager and change any pointers to local files, sql servers, databases, etc.
Enter the new site and surf as normal user, while watching the dos debug dialog for errors, which will usualy give clues to what Products or methods were missed in the transfer.
A complex site can take time to debug. Diff tools can be handy to work out what is missing.
