Attachments to posting
Squishdot Posted by Sig on Friday December 15, 01:03PM, 2000
from the dept.
Any way I can attach (and subsequent display) more than one file to a posting?

        No, I don't.

However, I do know it'd involve re-writing the appropriate bits of Squishdot.py in hairy nasty ways that probably wouldn't be backward compatible...

...so I'm not too keen ;-)

        cheers,

        Chris

Yes! Darrick's back, after a loong break for first finals and then a rather nasty disk crash on one of the computers (fortunately I'd seen it coming and backed up most of the data beforehand...)

Anyway...I don't think it'd be too hard to do with a SQL database (cough Swish 1.0 cough)...it'd just result in some amusing joins. Alas, I don't know how to the Zope Object DB works, and since it seems that Chris is heading away from it, I won't broach the subject. (And having said that, now it's only a matter of days before I do.)

Arguably, you don't really want people to attach too much junk to Squish articles because we used to allow people to post literally anything and wound up with a considerable amount of rubbish clogging the database.

However, the argument for allowing multiple attachments would be acceptable if it were part of an intranet where only responsible (and I use that term loosely) people have access to it.

          • ZODB rocks ;-)

            Woah there! ;-)

I'll be sticking with the ZODB, thanks...

ODB's are great for trees of data, and I think multiple attachments are a good idea, but for Swishdot rather than Squishdot.

            keep them eyes peeled,

            Chris
