having more than 10 articles on the first page
Squishdot Posted by lenz on Wednesday November 01, 11:12AM, 2000
from the dept.
On Pangea, we need to have more than 10 titles on the first page of Squishdot. I tried setting the max articles limit to 30, but I always get only 10 articles on the first page. How can I fix that? - lenz

    Set it to whatever_number_you_want * 3. Here's how (I think) this works:

You set a maximum number of articles to display, for example, thirty. Therefore, the minimum number of articles that will be displayed is a third of that, or ten.

Then Squish examines the list of articles. If the number of articles is less than the minimum (10) then it'll display all of them.

If not, then it will examine the list of today's articles. If the length of that list is less than the minimum, then Squish will display the last min articles (in this case 10).

If the length of the list of today's articles is greater than the maximum (30), then Squish will display the last max articles (i.e. 30). Otherwise, you get the list of all of today's articles. Which will be thirty.

So then, what's happening? Your site doesn't have enough traffic. Don't feel bad; mine doesn't either. You seem to average a post a day; therefore, Squish displays the last min (10) articles as detailed in the paragraph before last. If you had a hundred people posting every day, you would see exactly thirty articles.

Take a look at the function "id_list" in "$ZOPE_HOME/lib/python/Products/Squishdot.py" if you're curious.

I see your site is Italian. Therefore the charge for this explanation is a liter or two of Italian gelato. (Just kidding! (Well, unless you *want* to... :-) ))

Mmmmm...gelato...must go back to Italy next summer...hmm...good idea! I think I will go back. What city are you in? Can you recommend any gelaterias in particular? (Giolitti's in Rome was cool.) Thanks for the treat!

Wow, that was off-topic. Now back to Squish. I forgot one thing--the property "prevday_cnt" determines how many days' worth of old articles will show up in the "Previous Articles" box. Just in case you were wondering about how it works.

Sticky fingers? No problem; I just stocked up on soap.
