Automatically changing the Quote
Squishdot Posted by Erick W. on Wednesday October 18, 09:58PM, 2000
from the it's the little things dept.
I have a text file of quotes that I would love to use on my Squishdot site. What would be ideal is if there was a way to have Squishdot pull a random quote from it each day (instead of cutting and pasting one by hand) Has anyone attempted something like this before? If I knew some python I get the feeling that this wouldn't be too hard to set up, but unfortunately I'm not a python programmer.

    Need a Quote product
    by Chris on Wednesday October 18, 11:28PM, 2000
    Yeah, what's needed is a 'Random Quote' product that I can integrate with Squishdot for this.

    If I had time I'd write one, but other things like Swishdot are more pressing.

    If you can find one on zope.org, let me know and I'll integrate it.

    ...better still, send me the patches when it's done ;-)

    cheers,

    Chris

    I've been doing that with my Squishdot site since I brought it online.

    Basically I used what was already there under site_footer:

    <dtml-with misc_methods>
    <FONT size=2 face="arial,helvetica">
    <dtml-var quotation>
    </FONT>

    Which references misc_methods folder, then the quotation section. I added the below into the quotation field:

    <dtml-var expr="_.whrandom.choice(wittystuff.objectValues())"-->

    I also created a folder in the root, called wittystuff and inside it created a separate dtml document for each of my quotes. And tada, it works.

    I hope someone can use this info!

      I am doing a similar thing using the Zope fortune product.
