Squishdot vs. PHPslash
Squishdot Posted by bagus on Friday May 12, 06:18PM, 2000
from the Which to choose from? dept.
Anyone have experience comparing Squishdot to the PHPLib port called PHPslash? It's a port of the slashcode. I am still trying to figure out which product to try.

Squishdot is easy to use and install vs. PHPslash seems to have more features akin to slashdot. Any comments on pros and cons of both products? Any help to clarify is greatly appreciated.

I looked at atthat.. it still needs work. phpslash had more functionality, eventhough its in alpha.

I've been curious about the same things. Since Slash is out now, how does that factor into the equation? I'd love to hear reviews about these products.

The big things I'm looking at are ease of setup, use, configuration, ability to run as both rootdir and as a subdir, virtual host capability, and an active development community.

Seriously, though, the Zope Portal Tool Kit and whatever role Squishdot has to play in this will probably be your best bet. Not only community supported, but commercially so by Digital Creations...

atthat still needs work, but seems to have an active community, plus it CAN work with virtual hosts....as long as it has mysql, and php. For squshdot you need to have zope (not many isp have it), but i've heard there's greater functionality (still haven't installed it).

Squishdot and Zope will probably be you easiest-to-install bet. If not, let me know...

      cheers,
