Backup Squishdot?
How-To Posted by Matt on Thursday April 04, 08:53PM, 2002
from the nt-linux-switch-over dept.

I am converting from a Windows NT Zope box over to a SuSE 7.3 box. I would like to just FTP files from one box to the other but I am not sure if it is possable.

The windows box is running Zope 2.3.2 and Squishdot 1.0. I would like to add another identical site. Retaing the messages is not as important as retaing the look and feel. Which would be the best method? I have considered:

Installing the same versions of Zope and Squish on the second box and copying the z2.py(?) file over and hope for the best..

Or install new zope/squishdot and conduct a lot of copying/pasting.

Any suggestions?

The only file you need to move is the Data.fs file found in your Zope/var directory.

Just copy this file and use it to overwrite the one in your new, empty install on the new machine.

    Zope rocks ;-)

    cheers,

    Chris

Yeah, and of course make sure you have the same products installed on the lin box.

If I can convince my boss, I hope to also port our sites from nt to lin before the end of the summer.

Let me know how it went! And good luck!

It worked great, I would suggest using the same version of the products when transfering though :)

    No doubt, Zope does rock.

    (And Chris, Squishdot rocks too!)

I will second that, the community and the product are both outstanding.

Squishdot is in fact truly amazing and reliable.

Well, Zope's good (except for the zopenewbies server - I posted a comment to the April Fools post and crashed the server LOLOL)... They get that garbage collect process problem sorted out and I'll download install and run it no worries.
