Fixing bad anonymous permissions
How-To Posted by What Ever on Wednesday March 13, 06:42AM, 2002
from the Dept. of Heineken dept.
Sometimes when u install Squishdot, anonymous users can't access it. Here's a list of permissions I changed to make it work.

Setup: Linux kernel 2.4.x, Zope 2.5, Squishdot 1.4
Problem: anonymous can't access nuthin'

Login as admin. Go to Security tab in your problematic Squishsite. Check the following for anonymous:
Access Transient Objects
Access contents information
Access session data
Add Postings
Download Ext File/Image (that's an extra Zope add-on which you may not have)
Query TinyTable Data
Query Vocabulary
Search ZCatalog
Search ZCatalogIndex
View

I don't know (and care) if this is 100% secure since my content is shit anyway.
My only question is - why documentation or FAQs don't mention this? Is everyone that lazy?
Or I'm the only one to encounter this problem?

One of things I really hate about Open Source is that so many bums get to benefit from it without deserving a single byte of the code they use.

These are totally irrelevent. I'd be extremely surprised if they impacted the viewability of a standard Squishdot Site ;-)

http://www.squishdot.org/Documentation/Security.html not good enough for you? ;-)

Self flagelation isn't necessary on here ;-)

    cheers,

Thanks. I just viewed the Security.html. However, I found bugs with the "Introduction", "Features", "Installation", "support", and "Versioning" items of the leftbox. Please forgive me for not using the bug reporting facility.

Saying you "found bugs" is about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

        What are the bugs?

This is absolutely correct. I was having the problem of no anon access to my squishdot site. Turned on the items indicated at the beginning of this thread and it started working. Turned off the items

      > Access session data
      > Download Ext File/Image (that's an extra Zope add-on which you may not have)

      and it still worked fine.
